Keys, sync and settings
Settings
Every setting, in the order Settings shows them, with its default. Settings belong to each device: none of them sync.
On iPhone and iPad, Settings is the last tab. On a Mac it's a window of its own: Conn menu, Settings..., or ⌘,. Settings for one host are in Edit Host instead; see Edit Host.
iCloud
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Sync Hosts with iCloud | Off | Syncs hosts, groups and snippets through your own iCloud. Passwords and keys stay in this device's Keychain. Takes effect after you quit and reopen Conn. |
| Status | Whether syncing is happening. See Sync status. |
Terminal
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| New Terminals | Ask | How a host's first terminal runs: Ask, Single session or tmux. Runs In, in Edit Host, changes one host. |
| Theme | Conn Dark | The terminal's colours, with a preview. Says if a theme has colours that are hard to read. |
| Font | System monospaced | Also Menlo, JetBrains Mono, Fira Code and IBM Plex Mono. |
| Size | 13 pt | 8 to 32 points, in every terminal. |
| Weight | Regular | Regular, Medium or Semibold. |
| Ligatures | Off | Joins sequences such as != into one symbol, in fonts that have them. |
| Use Option as Meta | Off | On, Option and a key send Escape and that key, for Emacs and the shell. |
| Option Arrows | Word | What Option with Left or Right sends: Word, or xterm codes. |
| Can copy to this device | Shown once you allow a host | Hosts you've allowed to put text on your clipboard, each with Remove. |
| Conn's tmux | Shown once Conn has installed it | Where Conn installed its own tmux on a Mac, each with Remove. |
| Mac Notify When a Session Needs You | On | Posts a notification when a session you're not typing in needs you. Nothing comes while Conn is closed. |
Screen
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| iPhoneiPad Trackpad | Trackpad | Trackpad, Full Screen Trackpad, Touch or Off. See Pointer, touch and trackpad. |
| iPhoneiPad Speed | 1.0× | How far the pointer moves for the same finger movement, 0.5× to 2×. Trackpad styles only. |
| iPhoneiPad Precise Trackpad | Off | Moves the pointer slowly and evenly, for small targets. |
| Scroll Speed | 30× | How far a scroll goes, 0.5× to 200×. A Mac's Screen Sharing takes it as it is; other screens take a thirtieth. |
| iPhoneiPad Natural Scrolling | On | The screen moves with your fingers on the on-screen pad. A connected mouse follows the device's own setting. Not shown when Trackpad is Off. |
| iPhone Haptics | On | A tap on click, two on double click. Only on devices with haptics, and not when Trackpad is Off. |
| High Frame Rate | On | Up to 120 frames a second for a fast-changing screen. Only on displays above 60 Hz. |
| iPhoneiPad Macros on this device | None | Key combinations for every screen. Add Macro. |
On iPhone and iPad, the same trackpad and scrolling settings are in a screen's ⋯ menu as Screen Settings, while you control it.
Store
Data Version, Hosts File (for example "Open, syncing with iCloud"), Command History, Copies Kept (on a Mac, with Show in Finder) and Recover. Before Conn changes a hosts file that won't open, it keeps a copy here and never deletes one. Recover is offered when your hosts file didn't open, or an older copy holds hosts your list doesn't.
Command history
Shows how many commands this device remembers, with Clear History, which asks first. History stays on this device, never syncs or exports, and Conn asks for it to be left out of backups.
Mac Menu bar
Show Conn's Menu Bar Icon, on by default. The icon lists your hosts and sessions, and gets a dot while a session needs you. With it hidden, the Connect menu still opens a host.
Security
App lock: Require Face ID to Open Conn (or Touch ID, or your passcode) on iPhone and iPad, and Require Touch ID or Apple Watch to Open Conn on a Mac. Off by default. See App lock.
Compliance and legal
- Compliance: what Conn does with your data (no account, iCloud sync off until you turn it on, what syncs, passwords and keys, command history), trademarks, and the disclaimer.
- Privacy Policy, EULA, Support and Security open those pages in your browser.
